How many people really play Valorant? This is the official Valorant player count, every figure with date and source, plus why there is no live counter.
Last updated: October 10, 2026

The latest official Valorant player count is more than 35 million players per month worldwide – stated by studio head Anna Donlon in October 2024. Riot has not published a newer total since then (as of October 10, 2026). For comparison: in June 2021 it was 14 million PC players a month. In China, PC and mobile combined reach over 50 million monthly users according to Tencent (November 2025). There is no live player count, because Valorant isn’t on Steam and Riot doesn’t publish one.
How many people play Valorant? Search for the Valorant player count and you’ll quickly run into live counters, projections and forum threads that contradict each other. This page takes a different approach: it lists only numbers that Riot Games or its Chinese publisher Tencent have published themselves, each with a date and a source. On top of that, we explain why there is no real live count, how monthly, daily and concurrent players differ, what esports viewership does and doesn’t tell you – and whether there’s anything to the question “is Valorant dying?”. Where no official number exists, for example for console players or individual countries, we say so instead of passing off an estimate as fact.
The most recent official total comes from Anna Donlon, Valorant’s studio head in October 2024. Speaking at Unreal Fest 2024 in Seattle in early October 2024, she said Valorant has more than 35 million monthly players worldwide. At the same event, Riot announced that Valorant is moving to Unreal Engine 5. Esports News UK and VideoGamesChronicle both reported on it on October 2, 2024.
One thing to keep in mind: Riot didn’t break those 35 million down by platform. The console version had been out since August 2024 and the Chinese PC version since July 2023 – whether, and how much, they contribute to the figure was not stated. Valorant Mobile didn’t exist yet in October 2024; it only launched in China in August 2025.
Since October 2024, Riot has not given a new worldwide total for PC and console. The only new official figures since then have come out of China – and those are big (more below). If you read “Valorant has X million players in 2026” anywhere without a Riot or Tencent source attached, it is almost always a third-party projection.
Every other stat around the game – agents, maps, weapons, skins and prices – is collected on our page Valorant in numbers.
Riot only shares player numbers on special occasions – anniversaries, conferences, or through Tencent’s quarterly reports. The timeline below lists every official figure we found and cross-checked. Note that there is no confirmed official monthly number between June 2021 and October 2024: figures like “22 million” or “25 million (2023)” that often get quoted for that period come from third-party estimates.

Drawn to scale, in millions. Bars show the stated minimum values (“more than …”).
The striped bar uses a different scope (China only, including mobile, published in Tencent’s report of November 13, 2025) and isn’t directly comparable with the worldwide figures. The 2020 beta figure (almost 3M per day) is left out on purpose, because it counts daily rather than monthly players.
The chart shows why a simple “growth comparison” is tricky: the three numbers don’t measure the same thing. In 2021 Riot counted PC players only, in 2024 it gave a worldwide number without a breakdown, and Tencent reports on China only, but including mobile. What the figures do support: between the first anniversary and autumn 2024, the official monthly number at least doubled.
The most interesting official figures of the past two years come from China. There, Valorant is published by Tencent, which regularly shares metrics for its games in its quarterly reports.
On July 12, 2023, the PC version launched in China, published by Tencent.
On August 19, 2025, Valorant Mobile arrived on iOS and Android – developed by Tencent’s LightSpeed Studios together with Riot and, so far, only available in China.
According to Tencent’s Q3 2025 report, monthly active users of the Valorant franchise in China more than doubled from July to October – to over 50 million (PC and mobile combined).
In that same report, Tencent called Valorant Mobile China’s most successful mobile launch of 2025 to date (by first-month daily active users and revenue). In early May 2026, Riot then announced on the Chinese platform Weibo that Valorant Mobile had passed 10 million daily active players – without the app being available outside China. In late July 2026 came the 100 million mark. The reports contradict each other here, though: Ginx and Insider Gaming partly speak of registered players, while the post they quote says downloads. Either way, it’s a running total since launch, not a count of concurrent players.
When Valorant Mobile might come to Europe and whether your phone can handle it is covered in our guide to Valorant Mobile.
Short answer: no. Riot has not published a separate player count for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The limited beta started on June 14, 2024, and the official console release followed on August 2, 2024 in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan and Brazil. The release press release contains no player numbers, and Riot hasn’t added one since. Whether, and how much, console players are included in the “more than 35 million” from October 2024 is unknown, because Riot didn’t split the number by platform.
So if you search for the Valorant console player count, all you’ll find are third-party estimates. Those aren’t official figures, and how they’re calculated usually can’t be checked.
How the console version works and who you can queue with is explained in our console guide for PS5 and Xbox and on the page about crossplay in Valorant.
No – at least not an official one. Riot publishes neither live nor daily numbers and offers no public interface you could use to look up the current number of players. Official figures only appear occasionally, as shown in the timeline above. That’s why the question “how many people are playing Valorant right now?” can’t be answered reliably with a specific number.
If you just want to know whether everything is working – say, because matchmaking is stuck – a player count wouldn’t help much anyway. For that, Riot has an official server status page, which we explain on our Valorant server status page.
For many PC games, SteamCharts or SteamDB show concurrent players almost in real time. That doesn’t work for Valorant, because Valorant is not available on Steam. On PC you launch it through the Riot Client, and since November 2021 also through the Epic Games Store (Windows). Unlike Steam, Epic doesn’t publish player numbers. Riot hasn’t released any figures for the console version either. So the most important public data source that exists for other shooters is simply missing.
Sites that show a “Valorant live player count” are extrapolating. They have no access to Riot’s servers and model their numbers from various usage signals – tracker sites, for example, from the profiles they collect themselves. How exactly they calculate is usually not disclosed. The result is estimates that can swing wildly.
ActivePlayer.io is a good example. The site itself points out that its values are estimates, not official figures. How big the swings are becomes clear from the monthly values it showed for 2026 (checked on October 10, 2026):
| Period | Estimate shown | Context |
|---|---|---|
| April 2026 | approx. 33.9M per month | as quoted by Ghostcap |
| June 2026 | 79–118M per month | more than double Riot’s latest figure |
| July 2026 | 14–21M per month | −81.7% month over month, according to the site |
| August 2026 | 10–15M per month | lower bound below Riot’s 2021 figure |
| October 10, 2026 | 350,000–500,000 “concurrent” | no verifiable basis |
A game losing more than 80 percent of its players within a month without Riot or Tencent reporting anything remotely like it is implausible. Jumps like these point to changed calculations or input data rather than real players. The same applies to Tracker Network (tracker.gg): in 2023 the service itself spoke of “an estimated 20 million players”, based on the data it collects. The methodology isn’t public, and Tracker only sees players who are recorded there in the first place.
Our advice: use estimate sites at most to get a rough sense of trends, never as the “current player count”. What tracker sites can do otherwise, and which ones are safe, is covered in our Valorant tracker comparison.
Player numbers sound clear-cut, but they aren’t. Depending on what’s being measured, two “correct” numbers can easily differ by a factor of ten or more. These three terms are worth knowing:
Everyone who plays at least once in a month counts once. Riot’s 35 million from 2024 and 14 million from 2021 are monthly figures. Casual players count just as much as people who grind ranked every day.
Everyone who plays on a given day. This number is always smaller than MAU. Officially, Valorant has only had it twice: almost 3 million in the 2020 beta and over 10 million for Valorant Mobile in China (May 2026).
How many players are logged in at the same moment. That’s what SteamCharts shows for Steam games. Riot has never published a CCU figure for Valorant – every “concurrent” number online is an estimate.
An example makes the difference tangible: if 35 million people play in a month, but many only on a few evenings, far fewer are online on any single day – and fewer still in the same minute. That’s why comparing a monthly figure from Riot with a concurrent figure from Steam is misleading.
Viewership is the only Valorant metric that is measured continuously and independently. But: viewer numbers are not player numbers. Plenty of people watch esports without playing, and the other way round. The table below shows peak viewers – the highest number of simultaneous viewers – according to Esports Charts. Important: Esports Charts excludes Chinese platforms.
| Event | Final | Peak viewers |
|---|---|---|
| Masters Madrid 2024 | Gen.G – Sentinels | 1,687,842 (record) |
| Champions 2022 Istanbul | LOUD – OpTic | 1,505,804 |
| Champions 2025 Paris | NRG – Fnatic (3–2, October 5, 2025) | 1,473,642 |
| LOCK//IN São Paulo 2023 | – | 1,443,103 |
| Champions 2024 Seoul | EDG – Heretics | 1,412,558 |
| Masters Bangkok 2025 | T1 – G2 | around 1.3M |
| Champions 2023 Los Angeles | – | over 1.2M |
| Masters Toronto 2025 | Paper Rex – Fnatic | around 1.1M |
| Champions 2021 Berlin | Acend – Gambit | over 1.08M |
| Masters London 2026 | Leviatán – Paper Rex (3–2) | over 1.06M |
| Masters Santiago 2026 | NS RedForce – Paper Rex (3–0) | 883,064 |
| Champions 2026 Shanghai (ongoing) | Grand final on October 18, 2026 | preliminary: over 718,000 (as of Oct 10, 2026) |
So the all-time record still belongs to Masters Madrid 2024. Champions 2025 in Paris ranks third among all Valorant events. Esports Charts slightly revised the Masters Bangkok and Masters Toronto 2025 figures after the events, which is why we round them.
Riot itself publishes much higher numbers, because they include Chinese platforms. According to Riot, around 80 percent of Champions 2024 viewers came from China. These figures therefore belong in a separate column and must not be compared with Esports Charts.
| Event | Peak according to Riot | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Masters Reykjavík 2021 (final) | over 1M concurrent, over 800,000 on average | Riot press release, June 2, 2021 |
| Masters Madrid 2024 | 3.1M | Riot, VCT 2024 recap |
| Champions 2024 Seoul | 9.13M; 44.38M unique viewers for the grand final | Riot, December 2024 |
| Masters Bangkok 2025 | 5.2M | Leo Faria (Riot), December 17, 2025 |
| Masters Toronto 2025 | 3.8M | Leo Faria (Riot), December 17, 2025 |
| Champions 2025 Paris | 5M; 28M cumulative viewers | Leo Faria (Riot), December 17, 2025 |
According to Riot, Champions 2024 in Seoul came in at more than five times Champions 2023 in Los Angeles. China accounted for the lion’s share – with EDG, a Chinese team reached the final. That’s exactly the part Esports Charts leaves out, which is why the two counting methods are so far apart.
How the VCT is structured and which tournaments are next is covered in our overview of Valorant esports.
Twitch also measures viewers, not players – but it shows well how present a game is. In September 2026, according to Streams Charts, around 48 million hours of Valorant were watched on Twitch, with roughly 68,600 concurrent viewers on average and a monthly peak of 304,018. SullyGnome reports similar values for September 9 to October 9, 2026 and ranks Valorant fifth among categories by average viewers. The category’s all-time peak dates back to April 7, 2020, the start of the closed beta: around 1.7 million viewers at once.
“Valorant is dead” pops up in comment sections all the time – usually without evidence. We won’t make a prediction here. But we can show what the official and independently measured numbers support:
Bottom line: there is no official basis for the claim that Valorant is “dying”. The last worldwide number was the highest Riot has ever given, and the game is growing strongly in China. At the same time, esports viewership outside China has been lower so far in 2026 than at its peak. Both can be true, because viewers and players are two different things. The “Valorant is dead” numbers circulating online almost always come from estimate sites like the ones shown above.
There’s no reliable way to answer that, because the numbers don’t measure the same thing. Counter-Strike 2 runs on Steam, so its concurrent player numbers are publicly visible in real time. For Valorant, there are only occasional monthly figures from Riot – the latest from October 2024. Comparing a Steam concurrent number with a Riot monthly number is comparing apples and oranges. Articles that crown a clear winner almost always rely on estimates for Valorant. If you’re switching over from CS2, our page on CS2 sensitivity in Valorant helps you find the right setting.
There is no official figure. Riot doesn’t publish player numbers by country or region – not for Germany, Europe or North America. Claims like “X million Valorant players in country Y” are therefore estimated or guessed. Rank statistics don’t help here either: they show how players are spread across ranks, but not how many there are in total.
![]()
How players are distributed from Iron to Radiant is shown in our Valorant rank distribution – as percentages, not absolute player numbers.
Players from every country are part of Riot’s worldwide monthly figures. How large any country’s share is, Riot has never said. If you want to get started, the Valorant system requirements tell you whether your PC is up to it.
Before you share or rely on a Valorant player number, a quick check is worth it:
The Valorant player count can only be described cleanly through official snapshots: almost 3 million a day in the 2020 beta, over 14 million monthly PC players in June 2021 and over 35 million monthly players in October 2024. Riot hasn’t given a new total since. The biggest new numbers come from China, where PC and mobile together reach over 50 million monthly active users and Valorant Mobile alone over 10 million daily.
There is no live player count, because Valorant isn’t on Steam and Riot doesn’t publish one – every live counter online is a projection. There’s no official basis for “Valorant is dying”, even though esports viewership outside China in 2026 is below the 2024 record. As soon as Riot shares a new figure, we’ll add it here.
The latest official figure is more than 35 million monthly players worldwide, stated by Riot’s Anna Donlon in October 2024. Riot has not published a newer total since then (as of October 10, 2026). In June 2021, it was 14 million monthly PC players.
There is no official live player count. Riot publishes neither live nor daily numbers, and Valorant isn’t on Steam. Every live counter online is a third-party projection, and those swing a lot.
There are only two official daily figures: during the 2020 closed beta, almost 3 million people played per day on average. According to Riot, Valorant Mobile reached over 10 million daily active players in China in May 2026. Riot has not given a daily number for PC and console worldwide.
No. On PC, Valorant runs through the Riot Client and, since November 2021, the Epic Games Store. That’s why there are no Steam charts or SteamDB numbers for Valorant, and Epic doesn’t publish player counts either.
There is no official basis for that claim. Riot’s latest worldwide figure (over 35 million monthly players, October 2024) was its highest yet, and in China PC and mobile combined reach over 50 million monthly users according to Tencent. Esports viewership outside China in 2026 is, however, below the 2024 record.
Riot has not published a separate player count for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The console version officially launched on August 2, 2024. Riot didn’t break down whether console players are included in the 35 million+ from October 2024.
There’s no reliable way to compare them. CS2 shows concurrent players publicly on Steam, while Valorant only has occasional monthly figures from Riot. Comparing a monthly number with a concurrent number is misleading.
No. Riot doesn’t publish player numbers by country or region, so any per-country figure is an estimate. Rank distribution data only shows the percentage of players per rank, not how many players there are.
