The interactive Abyss map with all 23 callouts

The official Abyss minimap from the Valorant API shows all 23 callouts in their real position. Tap your way around the map or test yourself in the callout quiz – so the names stick before your next match.

1Tap a dot or a name – the map shows the area and nearby callouts.
2Use the filters and “All names” to learn one area at a time.
3“Start quiz”: 10 random callouts, you tap the right spot.
What the map does for you
  • You make precise callouts in matches instead of “one back there”.
  • You understand where rotations run and which areas connect.
  • The quiz trains fast recall – exactly what counts in a match.
  • All positions come from the official map – no made-up names.
Tip: combine “All names” with a filter for one side to learn Abyss fastest – start with the side you play most, then the rest.
⚡ Quick answer

Abyss is a Valorant map with two spike sites (A and B) and three lanes, set in a secret base buried deep in a chasm on the Norwegian island of Jan Mayen. The official map has 23 callouts. Abyss was the first Valorant map with no outer boundaries: at the edges and in mid you can fall into the abyss – and that means instant death. On top of that, there are four ropes and two destructible doors at Vent. Abyss has been back in the Competitive pool since patch 13.04. In pro play, Sova is practically locked in on Abyss.

How to use the interactive Abyss map

Above you see the official Abyss minimap from the Valorant API with all 23 callouts exactly where the game places them. Tap a dot or a name in the list: the map shows the callout, its area and its three closest neighboring callouts. Use the filters to show only A, B, mid or the spawns. “All names” labels the entire map at once – especially useful on Abyss, because it also shows you which callouts sit right on the edge of the map, like A Bridge at the very top or B Danger at the very bottom.

On Abyss, the map is more than a list of names. Since there are no outer walls, your knowledge of the edges helps decide whether you survive a round. So don’t just memorize the names – also learn which positions sit next to open edges. Once you think you know Abyss, start the callout quiz: ten random callouts, you tap the right spot, and at the end you see your hit rate. For all 13 maps and several difficulty levels, there’s the full callout trainer.

Abyss released on June 11, 2024 with patch 8.11 and, according to the official Valorant Wiki, is the game’s eleventh standard map. Riot describes it as a clandestine base buried deep within an impenetrable and endless chasm. According to the 8.11 patch notes, it is the secret fortress of the Scions of the Hourglass; the wiki places it in the “Elder Grotto” beneath Sør-Jan on Jan Mayen, a volcanic island that belongs to Norway. The map’s internal codename was “Infinity.” In the backstory, the VALORANT Protocol discovered the base, confronted the Scions there and then took control of the facility along with millennia of artifacts and records.

Riot hid a hint even before the official reveal: according to the wiki, the name Abyss appeared on the Episode 8 Act 3 boot splash, written in the Scions of the Hourglass alphabet. And a number from the official “VALORANT 2024 Flashback” recap shows how much the abyss kept players busy: 142,812,335 deaths from falling off the edges of Abyss. At launch, the map was first playable on PC in Unrated, Swiftplay and other modes, plus a dedicated Abyss queue for one week; it only joined the Competitive pool with patch 9.0 on June 25, 2024.

Abyss mechanics: the abyss, ropes and Vent doors

Abyss plays like a classic map with two sites and three lanes – with one twist that changes every round: you can fall off the map. All values and locations in this section come from the official Valorant Wiki and the official patch notes.

No outer boundaries and the drop in mid

According to the wiki, Abyss is the first map in Valorant with no outer boundaries. At the edges of the map and at a death drop in mid, there’s no invisible wall to catch you. Walk or jump over the edge and you fall into the depths and die. Riot itself advertises that you can use the death drops for clever utility plays or to invite your enemies to take a plunge – high risk can bring high rewards if you nail the execution.

In practice, that means positioning on Abyss is a matter of survival. A careless jump, a misplaced dash or a backward step while dodging can cost you more than a lost duel. On the flip side, the edges are a tactical tool: if you know where the drops are, you can use utility to push enemies into uncomfortable positions or take routes others avoid.

The four ropes (ascenders)

Abyss is a very vertical map. According to the wiki, there are four ropes in total. The first takes you from A Site up to A Tower, the second from B Main up to Mid Bend, and the third is in Attacker Spawn. The fourth is in mid: you can only get up to Mid Catwalk from Mid Top or Mid Library by jumping over mid’s death drop to a rope. That jump is both a shortcut and a risk – miss it and you fall.

The destructible doors at Vent

Both entrances to A Vent are blocked by doors that absorb damage and gunfire while intact. Each door has 120 HP. Its color shows its state: blue means intact, yellow damaged, red about to break. As long as the doors stand, Vent stays closed; only destroyed doors clear the way. On the map, A Vent sits between A Tower and Mid Catwalk – right between the A side and mid – so open doors change how quickly both areas can be reached.

Jump shortcuts: Danger and Secret

According to the wiki, two callouts are narrow ledges on the map’s outer boundaries that serve as jump shortcuts: B Danger and A Secret. On the minimap, B Danger sits at the very bottom edge near B Main and B Nest, and A Secret on the left edge near A Security and Defender Spawn. The name “Danger” says it all: a narrow ledge without a boundary doesn’t forgive a single misstep.

The patch 11.08 changes

With patch 11.08 (October 14, 2025), Riot made targeted changes to Abyss. According to the official patch notes, both teams were having a tough time on B Site: defenders struggled with the initial site hold, while attackers had difficulty holding the spike during post-plant and felt forced to plant for main. The site was adjusted to improve on-site play for both teams and to make post-plants for main riskier. In addition, the hallway in mid that leads toward B Main was adjusted to open up quicker macro pathing options for both teams.

Abyss rule of thumb: every edge is a kill zone, every rope a shortcut, every Vent door a path on demand. If you know where you can fall, you won’t – and if you know where your enemies can fall, you win duels before they start.

All 23 Abyss callouts explained

The table lists every Abyss callout from the official map with its area and the three spatially closest callouts, so you instantly understand where a spot is when your team calls it. The breakdown: 9 callouts on the A side, 5 in mid, 7 on the B side, plus Attacker Spawn and Defender Spawn. Pros and international teams use exactly these English names – “Mid Catwalk,” “A Vent,” “B Danger.”

A side: the largest area on the map

With nine callouts, the A side is the largest area on Abyss. Attackers start on the right side of the map; A Lobby sits near Attacker Spawn, followed to the left by A Main and then A Site in the upper part of the map. Directly above the site, right on the top edge of the map, is A Bridge. Below the site stands A Tower – the elevated position the rope from A Site leads up to. Further toward the center of the map is A Vent with its two destructible doors, bordering Mid Catwalk and Mid Library.

On the defender side, to the left, are three more A callouts: A Security in the upper left, A Secret – one of the narrow ledges on the map edge – near Defender Spawn, and A Link, which borders Mid Top. That matters for defenders: A Link and A Secret are close to their own spawn – according to the map, A Secret borders Defender Spawn directly.

Mid: Catwalk, Library and the drop

Mid on Abyss consists of five callouts. Mid Top is on the defender side and borders A Link and Mid Library. In the center of the map, Mid Library, Mid Bottom and Mid Catwalk sit close together; Catwalk also borders A Vent. Below the center of the map, toward B, is Mid Bend – the destination of the rope that comes up from B Main. Mid is also home to the drop you have to jump across from Mid Top or Mid Library to reach the rope up to Catwalk.

Whoever controls mid on Abyss has short paths to both sites: through A Vent to A, and via Mid Bend and the rope toward B Main. That’s exactly why Riot adjusted the mid hallway toward B Main in patch 11.08 – routes through mid were meant to flow better for both teams.

B side: Main, Nest, Danger and Tower

The B side has seven callouts. From B Lobby near Attacker Spawn, you head through B Main toward the site. B Nest sits right next to B Main, and B Danger is on the very bottom edge of the map – the narrow ledge that serves as a jump shortcut. B Site itself is in the lower left part of the map, with B Tower to its left. Upward, toward mid and the defenders, comes B Link, which borders B Tower and Mid Library – right between the B side and mid.

Is Abyss in the map pool? Rotation history

Yes. Abyss has been back in the Competitive and Deathmatch queues since patch 13.04 (August 18, 2026) – according to the official patch notes, it came in for Breeze. That makes the current Competitive pool: Ascent, Abyss, Haven, Lotus, Split, Summit and Sunset. You’ll always find the current status of every map on our Valorant maps & map pool overview.

Abyss has rotated several times already. Here are the stops according to the official patch notes:

Riot keeps working on the map outside of rotations, too: patch 13.00 fixed a bug where Viper could crouch outside of Viper’s Pit on Abyss without losing smoke integrity, and patch 13.01 fixed an issue where Reyna’s Leer could apply its blind in unintended locations near A Main. Fixes like these show how many edge cases a map without outer walls creates.

Presence = share of pro maps played on Abyss in which at least one team picked the agent · data: vlr.gg, VCT 2026 Americas Stage 2 (150 maps in total)

Sova sits at 100% – practically no pro team plays Abyss without him. The reason is the map’s layout: Abyss has many height levels, long routes and open edges, and Sova’s Recon Bolt and Owl Drone deliver the information before anyone steps into a risky angle. Next comes Harbor at 64%, followed by a trio at 50% each: Phoenix, Astra and Waylay. Omen, Neon and Jett each reach 36%, Yoru 29%. Viper, Chamber and Vyse sit at 14% each, Cypher at 7%.

What stands out is how spread out the controller role is: Harbor, Astra and Omen share it instead of a single smoker dominating. Harbor brings water walls and a shield with High Tide and Cove, Astra flexible control from her astral form with Nebula and Gravity Well. Among duelists, mobile agents dominate – Phoenix, Waylay, Neon, Jett and Yoru.

As a reference comp for Abyss, we show Yoru, Waylay, Sova, Omen, Cypher (Most-played pro comp (3 of 15) · vlr.gg: VCT 2026 Stage 2 (4 regions)). Sova is in all 15 recorded pro comps – he provides the info before every push. Two mobile duelists handle the entries: Yoru with Gatecrash and Fakeout, Waylay with Lightspeed and Refract. Omen smokes with Dark Cover, and Cypher locks down the flank with Trapwire and Spycam. For context: the presence values above come from the Americas league only, while the comp data covers all four regions – which is why agents like Cypher can show up more often in comps than the Americas presence would suggest. Try your own variations in the team comp builder.

Attacking on Abyss: tips for the attacker side

As an attacker, you start on the right side of Abyss with three routes: through A Lobby and A Main to A, through mid, or through B Lobby and B Main to B. The open edges make every route a little more dangerous – for you, but also for the defenders.

  1. Info before the push: as the pros show, Sova is practically always part of the lineup on Abyss. A Recon Bolt or Owl Drone before the take tells you whether A Tower, B Tower or mid is held before you show yourself.
  2. Don’t give up mid: from mid, you reach both sites quickly via Mid Bend and the rope from B Main as well as through A Vent. Give up mid without a fight and the defenders get fast rotations.
  3. Open the Vent doors on purpose: each door at A Vent has 120 HP. Shoot them open and Vent between mid and A becomes passable – but shooting them is loud and costs ammo. Decide beforehand whether you really need the route.
  4. Clear the towers first: both sites have a tower callout. A Tower can be reached by rope straight from A Site, and B Tower sits right next to B Site. Smoke or flash the towers before you run onto the site through Main.
  5. Post-plant away from the edge: plant so you can hold the spike from safe angles – not with your back to a drop. On B, remember that with patch 11.08 Riot explicitly wanted to make post-plants for main riskier.

A proven pattern on Abyss is the mid split: one or two players take mid and push through A Vent or Mid Bend while the rest come through Main. Defenders on site then have to watch Main and mid at the same time. Timing is everything – show up in mid too early and you give away the plan, show up too late and your teammates are on their own. Practice these plays on the strategy board first.

Also make use of the mobile duelists the pros favor on Abyss. Yoru and Waylay can use their abilities to get into positions quickly and pull back out again. On a map with this many height levels, that mobility is worth its weight in gold. But be careful: every movement ability near an open edge is a risk. Plan dashes and jumps so that you still have ground under your feet even if something goes wrong.

Keep time in mind on attack as well. Using a rope or shooting down a door costs seconds during which you’re vulnerable. On Abyss, the teams that set their routes beforehand instead of improvising in the moment often come out on top. Agree before the round who takes which route and who uses a rope or Vent when – that’s how the map’s verticality becomes your advantage.

Defending on Abyss: tips for the defender side

As a defender, you start on the left side of the map; according to the map, callouts like A Secret, A Link and Mid Top are close to your spawn. Your biggest advantages are the tower positions at both sites and knowing where attackers can fall.

  1. Check mid early: one player around Mid Top or Mid Library with info utility – Cypher’s Spycam or a Trapwire, for example – keeps attackers from rotating unnoticed onto a site via Catwalk or Mid Bend.
  2. Keep an ear on the Vent doors: as long as both doors at A Vent stand, the path is closed. If you hear shots on the doors or see them turn yellow or red, the enemy is preparing a route from mid to A. Call it out immediately.
  3. Towers as anchors: A Tower – reachable by rope from A Site – and B Tower right next to B Site are strong holding positions. Don’t play them too greedily: after the first kill, change your position, because the attackers now know where you are.
  4. Push attackers toward the edge: Abyss rewards defenders who apply pressure with utility. Someone forced to dodge on Abyss sometimes dodges into thin air. Place your utility so the attackers are left with only risky paths.
  5. Retake with grouped utility: wait for your teammates before retaking a site. Give up a site in a controlled way and retake it together rather than stacking all five on one side.

Watch the drop: defenders can fall, too. Dodge backward during a retake, miss the jump to the Catwalk rope or get careless on A Secret or B Danger, and you die without an enemy bullet. Check what’s behind you before every dodge.

On the B side, it’s worth keeping the patch 11.08 changes in mind. Riot explicitly adjusted B Site because defenders struggled with the initial hold. The goal was to improve on-site play for both teams. So try out in a custom game which positions give you cover on B today – old setups from before the change won’t necessarily work anymore.

One more tip: use the ropes defensively, too. The rope from A Site to A Tower lets you switch quickly between the site and the elevated position, and the rope from B Main to Mid Bend links B and mid. Use the ropes at the right moment and you show up where the attackers don’t expect you. Use them at the wrong moment, though, and you’re visibly hanging on a rope – pick a time when no gun is pointed at you.

Abyss setups: Omen smokes for attack & defense

Here are the key Abyss setups to copy – no video needed: every position is marked on the official minimap, numbered and explained step by step. The agent is Omen, the controller in the most-played pro comp of VCT 2026 (Yoru, Waylay, Sova, Omen, Cypher). The smoke spots are not tied to Omen – you can place them the same way with Astra's Nebula.

Every Abyss setup on this page is backed by at least two matching sources. Cypher setups and fixed plant spots are left out on purpose: there are not yet two matching sources for them – especially not for B site after the patch 11.08 rework. Important: the markers show the area, not the exact pixel. Try each setup once in a custom game before you use it in ranked.

Patch 11.08 (Oct 14, 2025) reworked B site and the mid hallway toward B Main; the B smokes are confirmed by a post-rework source, A is unchanged. Omen is in the most-played VCT 2026 comp on Abyss – Cypher and post-plant setups are missing because there are not yet two matching sources for them.

  2. 2Dark Cover iconSmoke 2: Put the second smoke in the passage between A Security and the site. Defenders in Security can no longer see the site, and the path from Defender Spawn is cut off.
  3. +Tip: Then take the site together through A Main. A Bridge at the top edge of the map is not smoked – check it, or add an extra smoke there if defenders hold it.

Covers: The defenders' two standard angles on A: the A Tower high ground and the rotation from A Security.

Weak spot: A Bridge stays open. A defender there still sees the site – Dot Esports suggests an extra smoke on A Bridge for that case.

The 5 most common mistakes on Abyss

Many rounds on Abyss aren’t lost to bad aim but to mistakes that are typical of this map. Avoid these five and you’ll win noticeably more rounds:

Callout cheat sheet: what good calls sound like on Abyss

A good callout answers three questions in one sentence: how many, where and in what state. Abyss adds a fourth: is a route open? These examples use only names from the official map:

Two rules make the difference: first, info before emotion – “One B Nest, 40 HP” instead of “How did he even hit me?!” Second, call out falls: if an enemy drops into the abyss, say so right away – “One fell, B Danger.” Your team needs to know there’s one enemy fewer and that nobody is holding that corner anymore.

Abyss compared to the other maps

On Abyss, the map itself can kill you: one misstep at the edge means a fall. While Ascent works with doors, Lotus with rotating doors and Summit with crashing walls, the layout on Abyss only changes when someone shoots down the Vent doors – but every open edge punishes a mistake instantly. Add four ropes, and Abyss is, alongside Split, one of the most vertical maps in the game. The table shows all 13 maps at a glance:

Learn Abyss in 15 minutes: your plan

Want to master Abyss quickly? This short training plan combines the tools on Valorant-Spind:

  1. 5 minutes of map study: turn on “All names” above and go through A, mid and B one by one. Pay special attention to the callouts on the edge: A Bridge, A Secret and B Danger.
  2. 3 minutes of quiz: play the Abyss callout quiz until you score at least 8 out of 10.
  3. 5 minutes in a custom game: walk Abyss in-game, use all four ropes, shoot down a Vent door and practice the jump across mid’s drop to the Catwalk rope – there, a mistake only costs time, not the round.
  4. 2 minutes of tactics: for Abyss, draw a split through mid and A Vent on the strategy board and share it with your team.

After that, take a look at two related maps: Split is a very vertical map with ropes like Abyss, and Summit is the newest map in the pool, with walls that change the layout mid-round. If you also want to work on your aim, the aim trainer has the right drills.
