Sova's Role: the Recon Master

In VALORANT there are four roles: Duelist, Initiator, Controller and Sentinel. Sova is an Initiator – the role that prepares attacks and clears the way for the team. Initiators gather information, drive enemies out of their positions and create the opportunity for the duelists to enter safely.

Sova's special contribution is his superior recon. No other agent reveals so reliably and over such great distances: his Recon Bolt scans a whole area, his drone actively scouts, and his Ultimate reveals even enemies behind walls while dealing damage. On top of that comes the Shock Bolt, which forces enemies out of corners and positions. Owl Drone C – the Scout

Owl Drone is Sova's active reconnaissance. You deploy a drone and steer it directly across the map. While steering it, you can fire a tracking dart that reveals the position of the enemy hit and marks them. This lets you actively scout a bomb site before your team pushes and mark foes for a safe kill. Enemies can destroy the drone – if they do, they give away their position.

Shock Bolt Q – the Explosive Arrow

Shock Bolt is Sova's damage tool. You draw an exploding arrow; on impact it goes off and deals damage to nearby players. Holding the fire button increases the range, and in the alternate fire mode you let the arrow bounce up to twice. With set line-ups you hit enemies around corners and on standard positions without seeing them. Ideal for defending a planted Spike or clearing an angle.

Recon Bolt E – the Recon Arrow

Recon Bolt is Sova's signature ability and the core of his recon role. You fire an arrow that activates on impact and reveals the position of all enemies in its field of view – across a whole area. With learned line-ups you reveal entire bomb sites from a safe distance. Enemies can shoot the arrow down, but doing so gives them away. The most valuable recon effect in the entire game.

Hunter's Fury X – the Wall-Piercing Ultimate

Hunter's Fury is Sova's Ultimate. You draw a bow with three energy blasts that have a long range and pierce walls. When you fire, you unleash an energy blast in a line in front of you that deals damage and reveals the enemies hit. You can reactivate the ability up to twice. Use the Ultimate to hit revealed enemies across half the map, defend a planted Spike or clear a position you can't even see.

Playing Sova Right: Tips for Every Level

Sova is team-serving and demanding when it comes to line-up knowledge. These tips take you from „I fire an arrow somewhere" to „I read the entire round".

For Beginners: Recon at the Right Moment

The easiest value with Sova comes from the Recon Bolt. Fire it just before your team pushes, toward the expected enemy positions – that way the information is fresh and usable. Use the Owl Drone to actively scout a site, and the Shock Bolt to force enemies out of tight corners. Important: communicate the revealed positions with your team.

For Advanced Players: Learn Line-ups

Sova's true potential lies in set line-ups. For each map, learn how to reveal entire bomb sites from a safe distance with the Recon Bolt (using bounces), and memorize the best Shock Dart line-ups onto the standard positions and post-plant angles. With learned line-ups you reveal and hit enemies you can't even see – that's the core of Sova's high skill.

Attack and Post-Plant

On attack, Sova opens the site: he reveals the defenders with Recon Bolt and drone and clears corners with the Shock Bolt. After the plant he defends the Spike with Shock Dart line-ups and his Ultimate. It's exactly in these situations that a good Sova decides rounds – not only with kills, but by giving the team superior information.
