Who is Cypher in VALORANT?

Cypher is the all-knowing information broker of the roster – a Moroccan spy who watches every angle and collects his enemies' secrets. As a Sentinel he secures flanks with traps and cameras and usually knows where the enemies are before his team does.

Cypher's Role: the Surveillance Sentinel

In VALORANT there are four roles: Duelist, Initiator, Controller and Sentinel. Cypher is a Sentinel – the role whose job is defence and lockdown. Sentinels lock down flanks, hold areas and give the team backup. Cypher is the classic, information-focused Sentinel type.

Cypher's special contribution is information. No other agent watches the map so completely: his trapwires and his camera reliably warn of flanks and pushes, his cyber cage delays attackers, and his Ultimate even reveals the position of all living enemies. Trapwire C – the Concealed Trap

Trapwire is Cypher's flank protection. You place a concealed, destructible wire between two walls. If an enemy runs through it and doesn't destroy it in time, they are slowed and revealed after a short moment. This gives you a reliable warning as soon as someone enters your flank or an access point – and the slowed, visible enemy is an easy target. You can pick up and re-place the trap to secure flexibly.

Cyber Cage Q – the Vision Zone

Cyber Cage is Cypher's tool to slow down and confuse enemies. You throw it in front of you and activate it to create a zone that blocks enemies' sight and plays an audio signal when they run through it. This locks off an angle, delays a push and lets you hear exactly when an enemy enters the cage – extra information that gives you a step's head start.

Spycam E – the Surveillance Camera

Spycam is Cypher's signature ability. You place a camera at a target location and can reactivate it at any time to look and steer through its viewpoint. While you control the camera, firing shoots a tracking dart that reveals the position of the enemy hit. This lets you scout a bomb site from a distance without exposing yourself – the perfect combination of passive and active reconnaissance.

Neural Theft X – the Info Heist

Neural Theft is Cypher's Ultimate. You use the ability on a dead enemy to download information from their mind. After a short delay, the position of all living enemies is revealed twice. This tells your whole team where the remaining foes are – an enormous advantage to storm a site safely or coordinate a retake perfectly. A single kill thus turns into a complete map overview.

For Beginners: Place Traps and Camera Deliberately

The core of Cypher is his surveillance. Set the trapwire on a flank or an access point you can't see, so you get warned, and place the camera so it overlooks a whole bomb site. Use the cyber cage to lock off an angle or delay a push. Important: hide your traps and camera so enemies don't find them right away.

For Advanced Players: Use One-Way Setups & Info

Cypher's true strength lies in clever setups. For every map, learn hidden trapwire and camera positions that are hard to destroy, and combine them into seamless surveillance of your site. Even as a surveillance Sentinel, Cypher has to win the duels he ends up in – especially against an enemy his trap has just slowed and revealed. A clear, calm crosshair helps you convert these chances reliably.
