Who is Killjoy in VALORANT?

Killjoy is the tech genius of the roster – a young inventor from Germany who controls the battlefield with self-built gadgets. As a Sentinel she secures bomb sites with a turret, Alarmbots and Nanoswarms and locks down an entire zone at the decisive moment.

Killjoy has been part of VALORANT since its first year and is to this day one of the strongest and most popular Sentinels. Her kit revolves around automatic defense and control: her turret fires at enemies on its own, her Alarmbot hunts attackers and makes them vulnerable, her Nanoswarm defends the planted spike, and her Ultimate detains all enemies in range. With that she can hold a site almost single-handedly – her gadgets do a large part of the work by themselves.

Killjoy's role: the smart guardian

In VALORANT there are four roles: Duelist, Initiator, Controller and Sentinel. Killjoy is a Sentinel – the role whose task is defense and lockdown. Sentinels seal flanks, hold areas and give the team backing. Killjoy is the classic, gadget-based Sentinel type with the strongest automatic setup.

Her special contribution is automated control. No other agent watches so many angles at once: her turret fires on its own, her Alarmbot warns and weakens flankers, and her Nanoswarm defends the spike even when she isn't there herself. Her Ultimate is one of the strongest retake and post-plant tools in the game. That makes her ideal for players who like to plan and place their utility cleverly.

Nanoswarm C – the hidden molly

Nanoswarm (called „Nanoswarm" in the original) is Killjoy's covert trap. You throw a grenade that cloaks after landing – in the alternate fire mode you throw it a short distance. When you activate it, it releases a swarm of damaging nanobots that deals high damage to enemies in the area. Because the grenade lies invisible on the ground, it's perfect for defending a planted spike: the enemy doesn't see the trap until it's too late. Place two of them around the spike.

Alarmbot Q – the hunter robot

Alarmbot (the name stays the same) is Killjoy's mobile safeguard. You deploy a concealed robot that hunts enemies that come within its range. When it reaches its target, it explodes and applies „Vulnerable" to nearby enemies – they then take double damage. Combine the Alarmbot with your Nanoswarm or your weapon for a guaranteed kill. You can recall it and reposition it to flexibly cover flanks.

Turret E – the turret

Turret (called „Turret" in the original) is Killjoy's signature ability. You deploy a turret that fires automatically at enemies in a 100-degree cone. You can change the direction while aiming and rotate the turret as needed; you can also recall it and reposition it. The turret gives you free information and damage: when it fires, you know an enemy is there – and the distracted foe is an easy target for you. A cornerstone of every Killjoy setup.

Lockdown X – the detain Ultimate

Lockdown (called „Lockdown" in the original) is Killjoy's Ultimate and one of the strongest retake and post-plant tools in the game: you deploy a lockdown field that, after a long charge-up, detains all players in range – they can no longer defend themselves. Use it to retake a bomb site or force enemies out of a post-plant. The field is destructible, so place it where enemies can't easily shoot it – often at a hidden or elevated position.

Killjoy is easy to learn and demanding on placement. These tips take you from „I put a turret somewhere" to „I hold the site like a fortress".

For beginners: learn the setup

The core of Killjoy is the setup around the bomb site. Place the turret so it watches the main entrance, the Alarmbot on a flank and the Nanoswarm ready for the spike. Important: place your gadgets so enemies don't immediately see and destroy them. A good starting point is to learn a fixed standard setup for each map.

For advanced players: chain your gadgets

Killjoy's strength lies in the combination. Let the Alarmbot make an enemy vulnerable and fire right after with turret and weapon – a vulnerable enemy goes down twice as fast. In the post-plant situation you place two Nanoswarms around the spike so enemies can't defuse safely. And save your Ultimate for the retake: put it in a hidden spot so it isn't destroyed immediately.

Even as a gadget Sentinel, Killjoy has to win the duels she gets into – especially against an enemy her Alarmbot has just made vulnerable. A clear, calm crosshair helps you convert these chances reliably.

Killjoy is no exception when it comes to mouse sensitivity: better consistent and controlled than hectic. The majority of players end up at an eDPI (DPI × sensitivity) of 200 to 400.
